CAMBA strongly encouages all mountain bikers to attend Cuyahoga Valley National Park's Trail Management Plan open house

Beaver Creek State Park

As of April 17, 2005 we have had reports that this trail is unrideable because of serious trail damage! Stay tuned to this website and the OMBA message board for the latest trail conditions information!

Overview: 2 Technical trails here. Vondergreen, and the Dogwood trail. Both offer great scenery, technical climbs, and fun downhill's. Not for the beginner (unless you take it slow). Stop by the park office, and they will give you trail head directions and maps if you need ‘em. However, park at one of the visible, large lots near the mill.

Trail Description: Head up over the small orange bridge that you can't miss (it's awesome) and you have two entrances to the Vondergreen, Lower and Upper. Head up the road to hit the Upper entrance. The lower is more for equine affairs. The Vondergreen is roughly 7 miles of a few steep climbs and some rolling singletrack. You'll cross the equine trails a bit but never for too long. The trail comes across to locks (Gretchen's and Grey's) You'll have a great view of the creek at times, too There is one washout near Gretchen's Lock that we need to work on following the Trail Care Crew visit but it's not too bad. All in all just a beautiful track. It flows very well, not a lot of switchbacks or anything but it can be technical and rocky in some spots. Of course there are some super fast sections too. Be sure to wear a lid.

The Dogwood is at the end of the road, that is directly across from the entrance to the Vondergreen. You will find some picnic tables, grills, and rest rooms at the trailhead. The Dogwood is a two mile loop (or not, you can leave it from the campground at the 1 and 3/4 mile mark and take a road ride of 2 or 3 miles back to the start.) The first mile is as sweet as can be. Flat, flowing singletrack with some twists and turns. You can really catch some speed and just hammer. Just past the mile mark, things get a bit hilly and technical. These include one climb that I am yet to see anyone make. It may be impassable this way. (You can start at the two mile marker and go counter-clockwise as well from the trailhead, however most don't. Don't know why honestly.) Definitely fun and fast and technical. Watch yourself, there are a few ravines that you don't want to hit... watch out for the last 1/4 mile. It might be better to hike-a-bike, unless you are quite daring.

All in all, Beaver Creek State Park offers lots of different terrain and lots of fun. Seasoned riders will find plenty of challenge and newbies can certainly hack it if they just take their time and maybe walk a section or two.

Directions: Connect with Route 7 in Youngstown. Take 7 south past Rogers till you see Bell School Road (right next to a large school...) and hang a left. Follow the signs for the Park Office.

Think about it...

Rule of the Trail #2: Leave No Trace.  Practice low-impact cycling. Wet and muddy trails are more vulnerable to damage. When the trailbed is soft, consider other riding options. Stay on existing trails and don't create new ones.
